It’s normally around this time of the year and the Grand Tours that we start posting about what we were doing at this time last year etc. Posts entitled “this time last year we were...” and then insert the famous Col, Alpe or the obligatory photo of a rider holding their bike aloft their head with the Arc de Triomphe in the background.
Last year many of our followers will know that we took 4 heroic riders on a journey of a lifetime. Seeing them ride all 3 grand tours, 1 day ahead of the professionals. This in itself put their bodies through some torrid times.
But today we woke and want to remember one particular individual of the four riders. Mr James Maltin, now James is a quirky character and is the one who is always up for a challenge.
Now, the reason for today being so memorable is that we witnessed possibly the craziest arsed idea that James had ever come up with. The sort of idea that is spoken about after a few bottles of red and then should be discarded as a drunken silly idea in the haze of the morning after. Alas, you’ve not met James.
The other riders had headed home in the traditional fashion but James had another idea of how he would like to return to blighty.
Now this story hast been shared or told until today, other than over lunches. This was a world first and something that will stay with those involved for the rest of their lives. It has shown us that you really are your own limit. James never fails to impress with his actions of kindness, willing to help others and his true sense of friendship. He didn’t do this to raise his profile or for any kudos, he did it because there was an opportunity to test himself.
Let it be known that over the last 3 years James is responsible for securing close to 1 million pounds for the amazing @cureleukaemia . Not all hero’s wear capes, James wears loafers, slacks & cardigans and we would have him stand with us any day of the week.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey James. It will be a story my children will tell their children one day hopefully.
