On 16 July 2018, Ambassador Anil Nayar met with the central executive committee members of the Association of Muslim University Students or Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (HMI), led by its Chairperson Bapak Respiratori Saddam Al Jihad.
Founded in 1947, the HMI is the oldest student organisation in Indonesia. HMI currently has over 6 million members in 216 branches across Indonesia.
Many HMI members have subsequently embarked on successful careers in government, politics and business.
Bapak Saddam and the HMI delegation shared with Ambassador the organisation's various programmes which aim to improve educational standards in Indonesia, especially in remote regions. They also expressed a readiness to work with international partners to promote inter-faith tolerance and mutual respect.

Ambassador and Mrs Anil Nayar caught up with founder and President Commissioner of Elang Mahkota Teknologi (Emtek) Bapak Eddy Kusnadi Sariaatmadja over lunch on 13 July 2018 at the Singapore Residence. Emtek, founded by Bapak Eddy in 1983, is well-known for its popular Indonesian TV channels SCTV and Indosiar. Bapak Agus was invited by his alma mater the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) to deliver the RSIS Distinguished Public Lecture yesterday, where he shared his insights on Indonesia’s vibrant democracy and the potential of the younger generation of Indonesians.
Minister Balakrishnan and Bapak Agus discussed the evolving political landscape in Indonesia, and the aspirations of Indonesian youth. Indonesia has made tremendous progress over the last two decades, and will make even greater progress by harnessing its demographic dividend.
On 13 July 2018, Ambassador Anil Nayar met with the Ambassador-designate of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Indonesia, H.E Pham Vinh Quang.
During the meeting, Ambassador Pham updated Ambassador Anil on the state of Vietnam's bilateral relations with Indonesia. The Ambassadors also exchanged views on ongoing developments in the region.

Minister for Foreign Affairs @vivianbalakrishnan hosted Bandung Mayor Bapak @ridwankamil to tea on the sidelines of the World Cities Summit in Singapore on 10 July 2018.
Minister Vivian noted that as Bandung Mayor, Bapak Ridwan had garnered praise for his efforts in sustainable urban development, and also transformed Bandung into a smart city through improvements to the city’s digital infrastructure.
Minister Vivian also expressed Singapore's interest to strengthen ties with Bandung, including through more people-to-people exchanges to foster greater familiarity and mutual understanding.

During their meeting, SMS Maliki and Ibu Tri Rismaharini discussed common challenges that Singapore and Surabaya faced as cities, ranging from urban development to security issues, as well as opportunities in using technology to enhance city management.
